DPD users discover new ways to increase efficiency for the depot

18.10.2022

How to turn a manual depot with many scanning workstations into an automated depot with high throughput.

The future of automation has already begun

The APF scan+ Usergroup of the DPD from the countries Czechia, Croatia, Belgium and Switzerland were able to see for themselves in the showroom of AMETRAS vision GmbH that the future of automation has already begun. With the three-side reading of the APF ident+ and the visual sorting support APF van line+, it is now definitely possible to automate even older, manual stock depots.

The new process involves automatically scanning the parcel on three sides at the infeed, measuring the volume and, if possible, marrying it to the weight. In addition, the data is enriched with information from the TTEVENTS. This provides the system with all the necessary information for automation.
The sorting in the distribution halls is indicated by means of LEDs. This extremely simple, patented and absolutely intuitive solution displays the tour or a weight indication on a light strip, for example. Tedious reading of labels or cumbersome handling of the ring scanner is a thing of the past. Another plus: even temporary staff is immediately able to sort parcels into the vehicles or place them in the right places in the pre-sort process.

Simple, fast and safe

The conclusion of the user meeting: simple, fast and safe - the solutions from AMETRAS are a real benefit - both for the processes in the depot and for the employees who are relieved. Thanks to a calmer sorting process, stress is reduced in the automated depot.

Personal exchange

However, the two days spent together were not only used for the introduction of new technologies. Optimisation measures in cooperation, improved organisation of sprints and requirements and optimisation of the APF scan+ programme were also on the agenda - and of course the time together was also used for personal exchange.

An all-round successful event that AMETRAS will gladly continue.
